Director's Messsage
I have experienced huge numbers of cataract and vitreoretinal surgeries throughout my career. Among them, my specialities are challenging cases of cataract surgery and vitreoretinal surgery.
Please feel free to consult us, even if you have been told that treatment is not possible at other clinics.
Takashi Watanabe, MD
Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery is performed on an outpatient basis and takes approximately five minutes. We also provide the option for same-day surgery on both eyes.
With our extensive knowledge and experience in multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) , we propose the most suitable lenses based on your preferences and eye condition.
Our precise surgical techniques minimize strain on the eyes, ensuring excellent vision from the early postoperative period.
As we are equipped to perform vitreoretinal surgeries, we are able to treat complex cataracts with a high risk of complications.

Vitreoretinal surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, and we can carry out emergency surgeries promptly.
Vitreoretinal diseases we treat include epiretinal membrane (ERM), macular hole (MH), retinal detachment (RRD), diabetic retinopathy (DR), vitreous hemorrhage(VH) , and dislocated IOL, and others. We treat almost all vitreoretinal diseases.
A typical surgery for epiretinal membrane (ERM) takes about 10 minutes.

Planning your Surgery
Cataract Surgery
A preoperative examination is required to determine the power of the intraocular lens (IOL).
If the monofocal or multifocal IOLs are available in Japan, surgery can be performed within a few days following the preoperative examination.
However, for lenses that are not in stock domestically and need to be imported (such as Intensity, MiniWELL, or EVOLVE), it will take approximately 2 to 4 weeks from the preoperative examination to the surgery date.
Vitreoretinal Surgery
If you are also undergoing cataract surgery at the same time, please refer to the section above.
Postoperative Follow-Up Visits
The day after surgery, a postoperative check-up is required.
You will need to have follow-up care at our clinic for at least one week after the surgery. However, if you wish to have your postoperative check-ups at another clinic, please inform us in advance.
After vitreoretinal surgery, medical-grade gas may be injected into the eye. Following the injection of medical gas, flying is prohibited for 1-2 weeks. This is because the gas inside the eye can expand as air pressure decreases, causing an increase in intraocular pressure.
